Our Winter

Live your winter in the snow at 360 °

In Limone Piemonte you can experience a winter in the snow at 360 °. With its 17 ski lifts serving 41 slopes spread over a total of 80km, the White Reserve is a paradise for all downhill enthusiasts, on skis or with the board, who know they will find snow-covered slopes and well-groomed snow here, ease of movement and reduced waiting times in queues thanks to the speed of the systems.

Approximately 170,000 ski passes are sold every year, a number that demonstrates how this destination is particularly popular with skiers.

Freeride in Limone Piemonte

Freeride yes

That's not all: the White Reserve also offers unlimited possibilities for freeride skiing, combining the thrill of fresh snow with a geographical context in which the risks associated with this practice are contained. The area is full of itineraries that alternate wide spaces, fantastic slopes, and beech groves. Thanks to the Alpetta, Pancani and Colle di Tenda lifts, those that reach the highest altitudes of the ski resort, you can reach the direct accesses of many off-piste slopes or the starting points for short hikes with seal skins.

To live an exciting and safe experience at the same time, the suggestion is to contact the UIAGM mountain guides of Limone Piemonte, the fresh snow specialists in the area. Thanks to the guides, you can take the best itineraries based on snow, weather conditions and your training: data that should never be overlooked, which a professional is able to evaluate with serenity and objectivity.

However, it is good to specify the off-piste descents are reserved for expert and prepared skiers, in possession of the right equipment (avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe), and can only be programmed with particularly favorable weather conditions.

Since these are off-piste descents, these itineraries are considered to be outside the area controlled by the operator and without signs: they are subject to avalanche risk and objective environmental dangers, dictated by the presence of rocks or other geomorphological features of the slope. It is therefore specified that the manager of the ski resort is not responsible in any way for accidents that may occur in off-piste routes, even if served by the lifts (Article 30 of Regional Law No. 2 of 2009).

Limone Piemonte is also cross-country skiing

In Panice Soprana there is a ring for Nordic skiing that offers two different routes, an easy 3km track with a positive difference in height of 80m and a more demanding track that develops on a 5km track and a positive difference in altitude of 200m.

A mix that allows both beginners and experts to have fun and test themselves, enjoying the view towards the peaks that separate the Vermenagna and Roya valleys. On-site bar, equipment rental and ski school complete the cross-country offer in Limone.

Snowshoes in Limone Piemonte

Snowshoes, why not?

For about ten years now the practice of winter hiking in the snow has spread throughout the Alps, which recovers the ancient tradition of snowshoes: snowshoes or “ciastre”, as they are called in this portion of the Western Alps, they allow you to walk in fresh snow and enjoy pristine environments where you can perceive the majestic charm of nature.

A sporting activity within everyone's reach, because it does not require specific athletic training or expensive equipment, is conquering an ever-increasing number of practitioners. In Limone Piemonte, a detailed guide of the existing routes in the area has been created, divided by length and difficulty: it is available for purchase at newsstands and tobacconists in the town.

The emotions of ski mountaineering

The Vermenagna valley offers lovers of this discipline many satisfying excursions both from a physical and an emotional point of view: after conquering the top by climbing the slope thanks to the skins of seals, the moment comes when the gaze can sweep towards the horizon, before embarking on the thrilling descent in fresh snow.

Just to mention some classic destinations in the Limone Piemonte area, Monte Alpetta, Bric Campanin, Cima Pepino and Cima Pernante are fantastic "lookout points" from which, from South to East, you can see the sea and distant Corsica and, from the West to the north, the Maritime and Cozie Alps which culminate with the 3,841m altitude of Monviso, “the Stone King”, and in the distance the Valdostane Alps with the Matterhorn and the Monte Rosa massif.

The practice of ski mountaineering in the valley is possible from December to April, but of course, before planning the excursion, it is necessary to inquire about the snow conditions and the expected weather: we also remember that the practice of ski mountaineering is reserved for experts, and it is necessary to be in possession of the right equipment.

Climbing on ice falls

Falesia di Napoleone is an outdoor climbing structure located near the Galleria di Napoleone, in the hamlet of Panice Soprana (Limone 1400).

The structure consists of 2 sectors and offers the possibility of climbing both in summer, in the "Isola di Sant'Elena" sector and also in the middle of winter on ice falls - the only one of its kind in Val Vermenagna - in the sector called "Generale Inverno". It is made up of several ice flows with progression cable pickets in the most challenging sections and for each pitch there is a stop always with stainless steel cable pickets.

The waterfalls are formed thanks to an artificial water collection system that allows you to practice this fascinating activity, otherwise impossible.

The Falesia di Napoleone is equipped with the best safety standards and periodically checked, but you must not forget that it is still a natural wall with free access subject to various types of agents - atmospheric, telluric, human - which can deteriorate the rock and the material planted. For the safest climbing experience possible, carefully read the information board at the base of the cliff.

For winter access it is necessary to touch the ski facilities: it is therefore essential to strictly follow the red and white signaling poles following the track on the snow without invading the ski slopes.
